Browser Safe Fonts

Sometimes you'll want to have your web page, or maybe just part of a web page appear in a different font.

However, if you try to use fonts other than the "system" fonts, (a font which is preloaded onto a computer) you risk ruining the design of your website.

If you use a font that is not installed on your website visitors computer they will see the text in a substitute font which may not look good on their screen.

For example, the words Palatino and Comic Sans MS, appear in the indicated font if using a computer which has those fonts loaded, but will appear as the default Times New Roman unless the default has been changed.

Solution:
Use Native Fonts: (Fonts that ship with the computer)

Basic PC Fonts:
  • Arial
  • Courier New
  • Times New Roman (default)

Basic Mac Fonts:
  • Helvetica
  • Courier
  • Times (default)

Generally Supported good looking fonts: (PC)
Verdana, Tahoma and Arial
